Registration & Login

Is my Username case-sensitive?
No.
Is my Password case-sensitive?

Can I change my username?

No.

Usernames are permanently locked during signup and CANNOT be changed, so choose wisely.

If at some point giantHello enables to change their usernames we will post an announcement on the site.

Can I change my password? Why would I want to?
Yes, after you complete the signup process, you can change your password. If you forget your password and we send you a new one, you might want to change that to something more familiar to you. If your password was compromised by someone else you would also want to change it, or you might just want a new password.
How do I retrieve my username and password?
If you lost or can’t remember your username or password go the main giantHello.com Home Page. Click on LOG IN at the top of the page. Under the BLUE LOGIN button just click on "Forgot your username or password" enter in your parent or guardian’s email and we will send them your username and password to pass along to you. After you are reunited with your password, if you’d like to change it to something easier to remember, click on the Settings tab at the top of your Profile Page. Type in the new password - confirm it and you’re ready to use it.
What do you do with email addresses?

No spam!!!

We DO NOT rent sell or disclose private information to any 3rd parties. Full details of this can be found in our Privacy Policy . (giantHello only retains parents email addresses NOT the children’s email addresses.) Your parent’s email address is stored in the giantHello secure database. We may use it to contact them regarding a privacy issue or to send you a new password.

How do I suspend/deactivate my giantHello.com account?
Only a parent can suspend a child user's account. To DEACTIVATE an account, the parent should log in using their own username and password. Select the account you want to eliminate and then click DEACTIVATE it. (Parents can also choose to turn "OFF" an account which essentially prevents a kid from logging in. Unlike DEACTIVATE where all account data is purged - OFF holds the data until the parent decides to turn back ON or DEACTIVATE the kid’s account.) Deactivating an account causes all personally identifiable information entered by the kid to be deleted from the giantHello database FOREVER.
Is a Parent's Approval Required to Sign up?
No approval is required for the Private Mode, but users must have a parent's approval to access the Public Mode.
What is the Difference Between Private Mode and Public Mode?

Public Mode enables members to interact with friends, post images and send messages. However, messages that are typed first go through a sophisticated filter that blocks inappropriate words and phrases. Please note: Although our filter is continuously being updated and improved, some inappropriate comments may get through. In the event that this happens, members have easy access to a "report abuse" feature.

Private Mode is the preferred mode for parents looking for the ultimate in online safety. This option prohibits users from interacting with friends, posting images and messaging. Users can still fan pages and play games, but that's pretty much it… Not very fun.

Why is a Parent's Approval Required to Sign Up?

Before kids are allowed to post personally identifiable information giantHello requires that they have their parent's approval. In order to keep the site safer, and in compliance with the United States of America Government's Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998, we offer a Public and Private Mode setting that parents can toggle to manage the communication and information privacy of their child.

Accounts created by users who are under 13 have Private Mode turned on and "locked." We then notify the parent by email that their child has created a giantHello account, at which point they have the option, at their sole discretion, to change this setting to Public Mode.

giantHello takes child safety seriously. Accounts for children under 13 are created in "Private Mode": all user-to-user communications are disabled. (This is not particularly fun, because there's not much to do).

Adding Friends

How do I add friends on giantHello?

To add friends on giantHello, type in your friends name and email address (optional). An invitation will be emailed to them if you entered their email. Otherwise you can print up a coded invitation and give it to your friends in person!

Once you have one or two friends you will occasionally see "You Might Know" updates. YMK's let you know you might have a friend in common with one of friends you have already connected with. If you recognize that person's picture (and ONLY if you recognize that person's picture) and want to invite them to be your friend, click the grey "send invite" button.

Once the person receives your invitation they choose to be friends with you by clicking "accept". If they don't want to be friends they can simply delete the invitation.

If I deleted a friend who has posted comments on my profile page will the deletion automatically remove ALL their comments or do I have to manually delete each of them?
If you delete a friend who had made comments on your profile page, you still would need to manually delete that user’s previous comments. Click on the RED X to select a message to delete. (Remember, you can only delete the messages that appear in your own profile.)
After I deleted a friend I decided that I want to be friends with them after all. Is there any way to reinstate them without having to go through the process of inviting them all over again?
Sorry, you’ll have to reinvite them.
Can I see someone else's friend(s)?
You can only see someone else’s friend if you have invited that person and he or she has accepted your invitation. You can see small photos of your friends other friends, and if you think you know that person you can click on the photo and send them an invitation, but you will need to know their name or email.
How can I find out if my friends are already members of giantHello.com?
Ask them in person or on the phone. Sorry, but there is no "Search" function on the site. This is done to protect your and other’s privacy.
Can I add my parents as a friend?
Yes! Adding parents is actually a great way to chat and share photos especially if your parent is in the military or overseas. giantHello is a great way to keep up communication with them!

Managing your Profile

Is it mandatory that users have a profile photo?
No it is not, but a profile will have a more personal feel if one is included. Your friends may not recognize the username you chose when joining giantHello.com but they will recognize your photo!If you are concerned about your privacy, you can post the default avatar instead of a personal picture.
How do I change my Avatar or Profile Photo?
You can change your Profile Photo by just clicking on it and following the upload prompts.
Can I control who can see my profile?
Yes you can. If you are concerned about a particular person viewing your profile, the best remedy is to remove them as a friend. There is an "unfriend" link on all profiles. In all cases there is a confirmation step to make sure you do not accidentally remove someone. Alternatively, you can delete certain individual posts and pictures by clicking on the "x delete" link located on either the picture or beside the comment. Remember, when you perform deletions - NO ONE (including YOU) will be able to view those particular posts and pictures after they are deleted.
Can I customize my Profile Page?
Yes, you can change the theme of your Profile Page. To access the Theme Machine, at the bottom of your page click on the Color Pallet tab. Click through the themes, and they will preview for you. Once you have selected one you like then just exit the customizer bar and your theme will save.

Commenting

Can anyone add comments to my Profile Page?
Only people who you have extended an invitation to can add comments to your Profile Page.
What items on the giantHello.com website can I comment on?
Presently you can comment on the profile pages, individual images/photos and Fan pages.
When I comment on a celebrities Fan Page, can they see my comment or write back?
No, due to our privacy restrictions the entities behind the Fan Pages cannot see our users comments, profiles, or photos.
Can I preview a comment before submitting it?
No, you cannot, so be sure you check the spelling, content and layout of your comment before submitting it. Once you are happy with it, press the Add Comment button.
Can I edit a comment after I have submitted it?
No, but you could always ask the friend who you sent it to, to delete the comment.

Mail Messages

Can I send a message to anyone on giantHello.com?
You can only send messages to people who you have been linked with on giantHello - and ONLY after both parties have registered. You CAN send an invitation to a friend's friend if you think it is someone you are friends with, and only if you know their email address or name.
Can I prevent individual people from sending me internal messages?
The only way to prevent individuals from sending you internal messages is to remove them as a friend.
Can I send a message to all or more than one friend at a time?
To avoid "inadvertent" spamming, you can only send one message at a time.
How will I be notified of new messages?
Currently you need to be logged into your account to check your messages. When you log in, there will be a balloon at the top of your screen with the number of messages you have in your inbox. If there is no balloon, then you have no messages.
Will anyone else be able to see Mail messages I send to another member?
No, only the member can see the message contents. However profile Comments are displayed in your profile for ALL your friends to see.
Will giantHello ever send a Mail message to me?
Yes. Periodically we will send users messages containing information about new releases. giantHello also contacts site users in the event of an improper use of the website.
Does giantHello have chat rooms?
Not in the formal sense. We have something called Comments. See above.

Uploading Content

What kind of content can I upload?
At this time giantHello only allows you to upload images/photos. We anticipate offering video and music applications in the future. When they are ready to use we will post an announcement on the site.
How do I upload photos?
The easiest way to learn how to upload photos is to ask someone you know who has done this before, (like your parents, an older sibling or your school computer teacher). If you want to learn for yourself it is pretty easy. At the top of your Profile Page, click on your little picture. On the pulldown menu select Photos. On the Blue photo bar click on "Add Photos".
How do I upload more than one photo at a time?
Currently you cannot upload more than one photo at a time.
What photo formats does giantHello accept?
giantHello accepts photos in jpg, gif, and png format.
Can I upload photos taken with my camera phone?
Yes, but you must save them on your computer first before they can be uploaded. Eventually you will be able to email the pictures from your camera phone. We are working on this feature and will let you know as soon as it is ready.
Where do my uploaded files end up?
They are stored on giantHello server. (A server is an Internet computer storage devise.)
I uploaded an image to giantHello; can I or one of my friends download the image after it is on the website?
For Privacy reasons, we do not allow any pictures to be downloaded from the site. (You can delete pictures, but just not download them.)
Is there a limit to how large the files can be that I upload?
Yes. For technical reasons we have a file size restriction of 5MB per file. If your image is larger than 5MB it will not upload; we suggest using the resize capability for that one image in the upload tool or do it yourself in an image processing program to reduce the file to lower than 5MB.

What are Family & Parental Tools?

How do I access my Family & Parental Tools?
Parents can easily access the Family & Parental Tools by going to the main giantHello.com home page; clicking on LOG IN at the top of the page. When the Login module appears, login using YOUR username and password (not your child’s). Click Login and you will be taken to the Family & Parental Tools section.
How do I update my email address?
Parents, we suggest you keep your keep your email address up to date in case giantHello needs to contact you. Your email address is also used to send your child their account information (i.e. username and password) in the event that they request it. To change the address, click on ACCOUNT SETTINGS. Clear the current email address and type in the new address. Type in your current password and then click the green SAVE button to confirm it.
How do I change my password?
If your password becomes compromised, you may create a new one. To change your Password, click on ACCOUNT SETTINGS, type in the new password, then do it again to confirm it. At the bottom of the module type in your current password and click the green SAVE button.
How do I turn ON, OFF or permanently DELETE my kid’s accounts?

To temporarily prevent a child from using the site you may turn their account "OFF", this prevents them from logging in.

Turning OFF Accounts

  1. Login and go to your Family Tools page (accessed from the drop-down menu in the site's top navigation bar)
  2. Locate the child you want in the Accounts List
  3. Slide the button to OFF (it will turn red)

To re-activate an account, simply slide the button to ON.

Deleting Accounts

Unlike turning an account ON or OFF, Deleteing permanently purges all data.

Once Deleted there is no way to restore an account.

We recommend turning OFF accounts rather than deleting, this gives you the option of re-activate accounts.

  1. Login and go to your Family Tools page
  2. Locate the child you want in the Accounts List
  3. Click the "Delete" button
  4. A confirmation message will appear. Click "Delete" to confirm & finalize the deletion.
How do I sign up more of my kids?

Adding additional kids to the account is easy. To add more kids, click on Family & Parental Tools and enter your user name and password. At the bottom of the module click on the blue "ADD KID" button. When the "ADD KID" module appears just fill in the required information and then click the green "Add" button.

Parents who have already signed up one kid do NOT need to give their consent again when adding additional children to the account. Your initial registration covers this process. Since you have already agreed to the Terms of Service , you do not need to agree to them again.

Where can I read giantHello official privacy policy?
You can read our official privacy policy by clicking on the CARU certification seal, (located throughout the site on the homepage and wherever users are able to upload content).
Can someone who is on the Internet use a search engine like Google or Yahoo to search for anything written about me or pictures of me on giantHello?
No they CANNOT. The giantHello.com platform was engineered to prevent outsiders from accessing the site.
Can strangers (or even friends) search for me on giantHello?
No, we do not have a search feature.
How do I report a safety or privacy concern?
The CARU Privacy Online Program provides users of giantHello.com with a no-charge service that allows our users who have a privacy grievance or who believe that a privacy violation has taken place on our website to directly report the violation or grievance. The reporting can be done swiftly and easily by filling out the Consumer Online Hotline form, indicating the alleged privacy violation. CARU responds immediately to all consumer concerns and complaints submitted in any form.
